It seems like every business is trying to increase their sales now, more than ever. Many times the way to get people to know about your business is by advertising. A lot of businesses are investing more into advertising, thus having more money to spend. There are many costly mistakes that can be avoided.
• Advertise Everywhere. This will definitely be expensive, and probably useless. Don't try to reach every person on earth. You have a target demographic; advertise in media that reaches your target. If you advertise in generalist media it will be expensive. You should try to get the most bang for your buck. Do your research in order to know what media to use.
• Many Different Ads. If you are advertising across different mediums, make sure you use the same ad. If you use more than one ad it may hurt your business more than help. If you have different ads that you want to try don't use them all at the same time. Change your ad every two weeks and document the response to know which one worked the best, but don't use them all at the same time.
• Keep it simple. Don't overdo your ad. When doing your artwork there is always a lot of information you will want to express. Avoid overcrowding your ad with information. Keep it simple and to the point. Don't force people to have to read your ad. Make it short and sweet. If you have budget available, paying to get your ad made will go a long way.
• Stick to what you do. If you are in the car business there is no need for you to have a picture of a family picnic. It is easy to try to appeal to people's emotions with pictures, but make sure your pictures reflect your business. You don't want to confuse the consumer; you want to inform them of you product and business. Make your ad about you.
Most importantly remember to be proud of what you create and put out. If you don't like it chances are people wont like it either. Create impacting and simple ads, and get ready to measure the response. Creating the ad is only the first step, you then have to see if it worked.
