The Guatemala Times best wishes, Planting trees, Happy Holidays, Peace to the World.

Another year has passed, and The Guatemala Times is now 1.5 years old.

We want to thank all those who have supported us from the beginning, those who kindly and with utter generosity extended a helping hand:

Oscar Clemente Marroquín, Newspaper "La Hora"
Eduardo Villatoro, sharing "Romualdo"
Ignacio de Wit, fotographer
Silvia Aldana de Wit, fotographer
Sergio and Alvaro Zepeda, fotograpers
Ivan Simic, our first international columnist
Project Syndicate, with their generous support of the best syndicated columns ever!
National political analysts: Gustavo Berganza and Renzo Rosal, Human Rights issues; Claudia Samayoa.
Our readers all over the globe.

We will take a break until January; we will go to Lake Atitlan for a different kind of work, to prepare the terrain for the little trees that will be planted at the beginning of the rainy season next year. We are sharing some pictures with you. We got many inquiries of people who want to help, when we made the call to save Lake Atitlan.
We will answer those inquiries individually.

See you next year!

Positive Steps
The planting of trees along the shoreline of Lake Atitlan is one of many positive steps being started to combat the cyanobacteria problem. Cooler weather has restored much of the beauty of the lake as the blue-green algae sinks below view. Tourists can now have a beautiful lake Atitlan to look at again, until the bloom returns next year. For lots more info on Lake Atitlan and cyanobacteria see http://www.lakeatitlanhealth.com

Good Starts
Planting trees around Lake Atitlan is one of many good starts towards combating the cyanobacteria now affecting the lake. As the algae bloom has become much less visable it is important people remember that it is still critical to work together and find ways to help the lakes ecosystem. There is a lot of information on Lake Atitlan and cyanobacteria at http://www.lakeatitlanhealth.com.
