We have discovered very diverse applications of Intellectual Property laws by different people who publish on the Internet in Guatemala.
We have done extensive research in the past and in the present of this complex issue of Intellectual Property in the Digital age. Our conclusion about Guatemala is that there are no rules or regulations. The Copyright for the digital age have not jet been written into law in Guatemala.
This is a very important issue, it is being addressed by the WIPO, World Intellectual Property Organization. We encourage readers to visit their website to explore the contents. They have a Spanish site as well. The information is FREE.
If this issue concerns you, and it should, because internet is the future, there are more sites where you can find information. We are just going to list one more that we consider very relevant because it is from the European Community.
I personally always trust the Europeans more than the Americans when it comes to rules and regulations on in the digital age. The reason is simple, the USA rules are established mainly to benefit American companies, obviously, they are very smart!!
The University of St. Gallen Law School have published an important Guideline called: EUCD Best Practice Guide: Implementing the EU Copyright Directive in the Digital Age. Authors: Urs Gasser, Silke Ernst. This paper can be downloaded free of charge from the Social Science Research Network Electronic paper Collection.
In our mission statement we say: To enrich people's lives with high quality online information that educates, informs and entertains.
We hope that this article will generate serious discussions about the situation in Guatemala. It needs a lot of discussion.
